Yesterday I finished a basic implementation of planetary surface generation. I also connected the high-level planetary data abstraction "planet profile" to the mid-level surface generation, so now they share information. <3

Now that there's a more vigorous connection between the sector-layer and the planetary-layer, I can also start tweaking the Event System the UI emits whenever the player interacts with buttons and so forth. Before last night, I've had to either hard-code a solution or cross my fingers and hope that whatever I already had in place would bear out, but now I can properly consolidate player input into specific layers of UI implementation.
